Microgaming is the world’s leading online casino software provider and this award-winning company has also developed a successful online poker network, which recently celebrated its tenth birthday. The network officially launched back in 2003 and before it was called the Microgaming Poker Network (MPN), it was actually known as Prima Poker.

Poker enthusiasts can now find this innovative poker product at some of the world’s most trusted gambling portals such as Poker Time, Ladbrokes, Cool Hand and 32Red.

The CEO of 32Red, Ed Ware, stated “We continue to be very pleased with the poker platform provided by Microgaming and have been part of their poker network since 2003. MPN has consistently adapted to the online poker environment throughout the years and is today well positioned to continue to provide a successful poker solution.”

Other trusted sites that now run on the MPN includes fully licensed portals such as Stan James, 188Bet, BetVictor, NordicBet, Unibet, Betsson, Gnuf and Betway.

To coincide with the tenth anniversary, Microgaming also released a new format on the MPN called Bad Beat Jackpot. Players must opt-in for this accumulating prize pool, which is then awarded to players for losing a big hand to another, even bigger hand. For example, one player was awarded the jackpot (which was worth approximately €554,000) after losing with a straight flush.

This jackpot can be triggered at any cash game and only one of the players involved in the hand needs to be opted-in. These jackpots frequently climb to such large amounts and they are won just as often. In fact, this Bad Beat Jackpot (BBJ) actually paid out huge three times in just four days as recently as March 2013.

The Head of Network Games at Microgaming, Lydia Melton, also released a statement on the tenth anniversary, “The MPN is one of poker’s best loved and longest-established networks, we've seen so many changes on the network and in the industry in the last ten years - the rise of regulated markets and loss of other markets, software innovation and nearly five billion hands dealt at our tables. I'm really excited about what could happen in the next ten years.”

Millions of individual hands of poker are dealt on a daily basis over the MPN. This network has continued evolving over the years and the company has implemented frequent new changes in order to stay competitive within the market.  For example, the MPN was the first online poker network to introduce Survivor Tournaments. This is a rapid-play poker format which occasionally wipes random players out of the action. It will only eliminate players who happen to be running low on chips.

The MPN was the first network to become available for Android devices. It was also the first to introduce Anonymous Tables and it introduced a unique poker variant called Blaze Poker, which is basically a Fast-Fold version of poker.

It should also be noted that Microgaming won the eGR’s ‘B2B Poker Network of the Year’ award back in 2011.
