The Top of the Rock Observation Deck in New York really is just that “Top of the Rock”! The panoramic views of Manhattan cannot be seen like this from anywhere else in New York.  Standing on the 70th floor of the Rockefeller Plaza the Top of the Rock Observation Deck gives the visitor an uninterrupted view of all the major sites of New York.  If you want to see man made landmarks in all of New York’s glory from the Chrysler Building to Times Square and the Statue of Liberty then Top of the Rock is the place to go.

The Observation deck is open 365 days a year from 8 am until midnight, even if you have visited during the day before the night time is a completely new experience.  The illuminations of the surrounding landmarks really come to life and cast a vibrant glow over the whole city, giving it clarity and a sense of surrealism.   Take as many pictures as you like but they will never express the feeling that you get when actually standing on the Top of the Rock personally.

The entrance to the Top of the Rock is on New York’s 50th street between 5th and 6th Avenue where you can catch a lift the 850 feet up to the 3 level observation deck.  The last lift is at 11pm and you can expect to pay around $20 a ticket depending on the time of year.  Many people have reported the venue to much less crowded than viewing points such as the Empire State building and the Statue of Liberty.

The 30 Rockefeller Plaza is a sight to be seen in its self, it you have time to have a good look around then you will not be disappointed.  Bustling with shops and various events happening throughout the year the Rockefeller Plaza always has something interesting going on; art exhibitions, bands and concerts are just some of the events you can witness on your way up to the observation deck.  Be sure you check the Rockefeller Calendar to so what is happening at the time you are there, if you make it at Christmas try and catch the lighting of the famous Rockefeller Christmas tree.

There are no restaurants or bars on the actual observation deck its self, this is designed to keep the crowds to a minimum, but there are plenty to choose from on the concourse level of the Plaza.  There are toilets accessible on the 3 floors of the observation deck with disabled access and disabled access into the venue.  There is no time limit on how long you stay on the observation deck but the average time that people tend to stay is 45 minutes to an hour.

Getting to the 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York is as easy as it is to get anywhere in the big city, the underground takes you right to an entrance to the building between 49th street and 50th street.  Getting a yellow cab, although a bit of an art catching one, once inside the cabby will definitely know how to get you there.
