Why Pot Odds Make No Sense In A Tournament

In poker, pot odds play a big role – we all get the idea, it’s about knowing what value you are being given to enter a pot and whether doing so would be a waste of money or not. Makes sense really. In theory, if you could guarantee only ever playing a pot where your pot odds where good that would be all the strategy you ever needed.

The problem with pot odds is this:

The theory kind of relies on 2 assumptions – that the payout translates directly into real money, and that there is no limit to your ability to keep playing.

In reality of course no one has unlimited money, but in a cash game your bet amounts are probably small in comparison to your bankroll (if not then you are playing above your means, which is bad for all sorts of other reasons), so pot odds basically work
